Surprise!!!

When you go through fertility treatments, you lose the element of surprise because you and your partner are both very aware of what’s going on and the two-week wait.  “Well did it work this time?” No, it did not.  None of our fertility treatments to date resulted in a pregnancy. On all our natural cycles, I fantasized about how I would tell Zak if I got pregnant.  I had so many ideas based on the month, season, or holiday.  So when I got pregnant unexpectedly on a cancelled egg retrieval cycle, I immediately thought “YES! No need to squint, two pink lines!

One year ago, just like today, I had a morning acupuncture appointment. For as long as I’d been going to acupuncture, I’d take a precautionary pregnancy test if I was near the end of my cycle. I still don’t know how much I believe in acupuncture, but just the month before my acupuncturist literally started my period. May: The month I miscarried

I woke up today with the all-too-familiar anxiety jitters, a strong reminder that the month of May will never be the same for me again. May has always been an exciting month—it’s my birthday month (and I’m someone who loves celebrating my birthday)! It’s also my mom’s birthday and my cousin’s birthday. May always meant the school year was coming to an end. I graduated college in May.
